PRODUCT DANISH DESIGN MUSEUM: AKUT

Besides the exhibition The Future is Present, which is also being designed for the Danish Design Museum, the second exhibition that Spacon & X has been allowed to design, is AKUT. Compared to The Future is Present, this exhibition is relatively smaller in size and has a considerably lower budget. The concept revolved around a kind of ''acute'' situation where art would be presented that would stand for a maximum period of two months. The design had to be easy to assemble, adaptable and quick to disassemble. For this first design I had to dive in to the deep end and discover the world of product design. I designed a piece of furniture that consisted of a single wooden plank where no screws would be used in the assembly and where no sawing would be done in the wood either. This worked very well, but did not provide enough flexibility for the larger artifacts that required a certain amount of surface area. In a second design, the budget had been reduced considerably and three pieces of furniture had been designed that were equal to each other and can stand on all sides and thus exhibit art objects in different ways. It provided a good solution for an almost impossible task.
